Within my self-imposed $300.00 budget, I've been able to "get" (I wouldn't say "score") the followng TOTL Receivers:
Hitachi SR-2004

This one will be a back-up for the one I already have. I've got the Service Manual, so hopefully it can be fixed for the usual $90.00. Has not arrived yet. If all works out, I'm going to have the case re-done in a real wood veneer.
Marantz RS-3559

This Receiver was part of the "Century Series" and was responsible for getting Marantz back into the groove in 1989. Rated at 125 wpc, Stereo Review tested it out at 178 wpc 20-20kHz @ 8 0hms and proclaimed that it "left nothing to be desired". It has the same "Cooling Tunnel" heatsink as its ancestors. It also came in a stunning gold and rosewood. I had one of those and made the INCREDIBLE mistake of selling it.
This particular unit had a broken front door, but a couple dabs of Krazy Glue on the broken plastic gears and now she's puuuurrrrrrrfect! I considered the plug an upgrade and the screws were easily replaced. I decided to move her into my office to go with the matching Century Series CD Player. Very nice to look at and listen to. I've also got a MINT one stored in a box for sentimental reasons. Definately worth every cent!

After the 2500 and 2600 were phased out, and BEFORE Philips stepped in, Marantz had introduced the "next generation" SR Receivers, smaller and lighter units with less power and digital tuning. The SR-9000G at 130 wpc was the top of the line. But, for some reason, it was only sold in Europe. The States got the relatively anemic "True Power" SR-8000 at 70 wpc.
This particular SR-9000G has a unique Rosewood vinyl case (ala Luxman R-1120), which is different from the last SR-9000G I had, which did not enclose the faceplate. I always regretted selling that one, so when another popped up, I made sure it was going to be mine!! Has not arrived yet, but eagerly looking forward to it. I'll do a "side by side" with the SR-8000.
So, yes, you can have BIG FUN on a budget.
