Just a couple of questions for you klipsch guru's on my recently acquired quartets. I understand that it is possible to replace my current tweeters with the k79 tweeter, since these seem somewhat rare in my search so far can the more common k75 tweeter also be used? Would I benefit from this tweeter also? Would either be a direct drop in or would modifications be needed. I appreciate all the info you guys have posted on this model, really enjoy reading about all the different upgrades that can be done to these speakers.

I did drop K79's into my quartet but you can obtain a really nice upgrade by installing the Bob Crites titanium diaphragms into your existing motors. The networks in your Quartet are set up for the motors you already have (the K79 is going to be a little bit hotter) so just upgrade your diaphragms, that will be a direct drop in and no network changes need to be made,you maintain the correct balance and get smoother more extended response. You can also listen to a pair of Klipsch titanium mid diaphragms available from Simply Speakers if you like what the ti tweeters do you will love the ti mids. Have fun and enjoy.
Thanks Moray, I was counting on your reply. I will eventually upgrade my networks also along with my mids and the woofer which is why I asked about the k79 tweeter. I plan on doing most of the mods I've read about on these and other forums. To me I think the quartets are a good speaker that can be made into a great speaker once all the mods are done. For the $210 I paid for these speakers I think doing the upgrades is a no brainer in my case. Moray could you go into a little more detail about your k79 tweeters being hotter? Has that caused any problems with your speaker. Is the k75 tweeter also a viable match? If so would that eliminate the heat issue. By the way my networks will be professionally built as I have no confidence/skill in this area. I've read and reread what you've done to your quartets and am very impressed. Your thread is what inspired me to try and tackle this project.

Hotter as in increased output level. The K79 magnet is a little bit larger than the magnet in the stock Quartet motor. I damp the motor pole piece with dynamat and damp the cavity beneath the diaphragm with a felt dome made from F-11 acoustical felt. I also damp the back plate of the motor with dynamat and I damp the terminal tab. The horn lens is also damped with a layer of dynamat. I use a non official size ping pong ball as a diffusor and mount a small disk (1/4" - 3/8" dia) of 1/8" thick F-11 which directly faces the diaphragm. This results in a very good balance along with improved response and dispersion. The added dead weight on the passive radiators re tunes the system lower. I also replaced the stock Quartet woofer with the KLF20 woofer. All my woofers now have the baskets damped with dynamat and F-11 felt. Back plates are also damped with dynamat. I damp passives now in the same way. Hope that helps you.
No, not at all, I bought the first 2 off of craigslist here locally and they are oiled oak. The third one was sitting in a vintage stereo shop, it was used as a center channel. It has the walnut finish on it. The shop was kind enough to hook it up to a tube amp that was being sold on consignment and I was blown away by how good this speaker sounds hooked up to tubes. I was originally going to go the same route but decided to keep the third one as a spare for now
