Recommend some under $150 pre-owned turntables!

The Pioneer PL-X series are serious sleeper tables with a nice low mass tonearm. The PL-7 is in a sweetspot price wise, you can get it for sub $100 pretty frequently on eBay. That leaves a good bit of budget to get a nice cart for it. On the cheap end, an AT10/11/12 or derivative thereof plus the Pfanstiehl 629-DE .2x.7 elliptical is a great budget setup. In the middle, the arm matches very well with most Shure carts that track at 1-1.5g, such as the M95ED. Moving up the range, it matches well with the Ortofon OM series. The OM20 and OM30 are seriously nice carts if you like the Ortofon sound.

Wow. When I started, all of them were under $150!

I've stated this in many other threads, but for a newb, the best value in turntables at this present day is with P-mount Technics direct drives. Yeah, not a ton of cartridge options or set up options, but therein is the beauty...not much that a newbie can muck up, and some pretty great sound if level and isolated. In fact, those are about your only worries...leveling it and isolating it, the rest is done for you. And they're not 'desireable' like the S arm earlier stuff.............yet.

There were a lot of truly awful p-mount tables once the CD came out and most manufacturers didn't give a rip about record players anymore, but Technics kept the bar high.

Grab 'em while they're cheap!
