Hello, i recently got my hands on a Technics SL23-A as my first turntable. Overall i am pleased with it.
It came with an Empire 2000 e/i cartridge and Empire 1 stylus which the previous owner did not have any information about. Therefore i decided to change the stylus or the whole cartridge. But this is a jungle to me and i have some questions.
First of all, is the Empire 2000 e/i any good and what’s the difference compared to an Empire 2000 e/iii or e/ii?
When searching the web i found a chart showing empire styli ranging from 2000 to 4000 d/iii, they all seem to look the same, would a 4000 d/iii or 2000 e/iii fit my cart and give me better sound than my Empire 1?
I read about Jico styli and have been trying to locate them on the european retailer Dacapoaudio but without success, although i found Tonar replacements for my cart, which i read are produced by Jico but branded Tonar, is this correct?
All this is so confusing and every time i sit down to decide on something i just end up researching deeper without coming to any conclusion. Should i just opt for a newly produced cartridge in the 100-150€ range instead? Something tells me that vintage gear will sound better unless i spend thousands of dollars on new stuff.
