Recommendation on an integrated tube amp for Altec Lansing Model 14.

I forgot to add Again for starting off, Leave the mid-High controls at 12 O'clock or less,11-10, so that everything is the same other than placement.
BTW I always turn down my Horns a lot! as I also listen Close 8' away, to them due to my Listening space.
Also that table in front of your seat is also screwing with the Sound Big Time!
 
Thanks for your advice, mids are currently in 12 o'clock and highs in 3 o'clock. I may have to bring down the speakers at the basement at some point so I don't have to move the speakers whenever
I listen to it (+ makes wife happy :D).

Its elusive if not impossible to get Horns to Image
like real High end speakers. If you ever went to a High end Audio show like Rocky Mountain Audio Fest Or CES in Vegas go into some of the better rooms and you will hear what I mean.

You know this is an interesting comment here. I have been to one high end show where everything was so far out of reach price wise. The sound was in fact incredible. The imaging was also incredible. I then set out to find something close as I can to it that I could somewhat afford. That said... I have a Fisher 400CX2 pre with full Mullard complement and an SA-100 and 300 also full Mullard complement, but the Telefunken’s were also good but not as good as Mullard IMO. I prefer the SA-100 over the 300 BTW. All on a pair of Altec 604b Hollywood’s. Mind you I do have an SVS sub. So that needs to be taken into account.

I feel that the imaging and mids, projection, dynamics, soundstage, decay, outperformed every high end that I listened too that day. I would say, to my ears mind you, and this is totally a preference thing and not that one is better than the other but, vastly superior.

Again to be noted I only listened to 4 different sets and can’t for the life of me remember the names but they were all in the 40k plus area.

Though I haven't used my 14's with a tube integrated, many different amps go in and out as drivers. McIntosh MC225, MC240, MC30's. Acrosound ULII's, Stereo 20-20. Heathkit UA-2s. Dennis Had Parallel 45 SET.

Guess which delivers the most impressive sound with excellent imaging, wide soundstage, and excellent deep tight bass? It's a tie between the Dennis Had at 4.5 wpc and the little Acrosound Stereo 20-20 at 12 wpc. If I had to pick, I favor the Dennis Had. This at fairly loud listening levels. Any louder, using any of the amps mentioned, the M14's lose the magic.
 
I just noticed that these are a custom cabinet mirrored pair. Nice.

I have rebuilt the crossovers in mine. Some people claim that eliminating the protection circuit in the crossover improves the sound. I have not done that.
 
Maybe a Mac MA 252 or 352. If you were rich I would say you could bi amp with a a Pair of MC 901's. I would use a MC 7200 for tight woofer control and one of Macs newer tube pre-amp. MC 2200.
