Having a difficult time finding a smaller flat screen to replace a CRT that was damaged due to a recent power surge.

I also prefer a unit that can accept 3 RCA connector cables, ie red, white, yellow for connecting the satellite box to the TV. The box also has 75 ohm outputs but I've never used those. Also, I need the TV to be able to be remote controlled with the remote for the satellite box. The satellite box remote has settings for hundreds of TV manufacturers so hopefully this shouldn't be a problem.

Can you give us details on what sort of trouble you are having so we don't recommend brands that you've already investigated? Most modern TVs no longer have RCA composite inputs, but some include a dongle that let you connect them via a 3.5mm jack. An alternative would be a composite to HDMI converter.

But is there a reason that you're continuing to use a composite satellite box when HD has been available for so long?

The installation was done almost 20 years ago and it's just a bedroom TV so I never bothered with it. I don't have any control over the equipment installed by the satellite provider. I'll have to check with DirectTV to see whether I can use the 75 ohm connector so that might be a non factor. I just want a smaller TV that will fit on the stand placed against the wall at a 45 degree angle where the present TV is. Clearance to the wall is limited so the total width of the TV must be under 20" or so.

Almost anything will work. You might check for remote learning, get the one with the best sound, other things being close to equal. They are getting quite inexpensive.

Unless the remote's been updated, I think the major issue is going to be the scarcity of TVs that small from major manufacturers. Almost all 20-22" (22" should still be narrow enough since screens are measured diagonally) I see on Amazon are from brands that were not available 20 years ago, so there's a chance that the remote codes (unless the remote has the ability to be programmed with an existing remote) from the satellite box will not work with any modern TV. On the other hand, you can always compare the list of codes available with the list of small TVs that size and see if there are any matches. There's a decent (although not 100%) chance that codes from older CRT sets will still work with flat panel sets from the same manufacturer. I know this was the case with Sony, at least for panels made in the 2010s.

I have a 2009 Emerson LC195EMX flat panel, which has been dead nuts reliable and has a surprisingly good picture. 18.5 inches wide; we use it in a small nook in the kitchen. Made by Funai, I’ve seen them branded with other ‘manufacturers’. RF input, 2 HDMI, composite analog inputs. Works for us.
