Record Clamp ?

Sorry if this question has been done to death...I have a Technics SL-1400 and a Sl-1600. I want to get a record clamp and have been looking at the TTWeights Super Clamp Light. Would appreciate input from people experienced with this undertaking. Thank you all.

I picked up a KAB record clamp a few weeks back. It does firm up the sound some, but nothing major. I have not tried the TTWeights clamp however.

Kermit z, thank you. I would like to get a ring, but will settle for clamp. I believe I'll get the TTweights. light weight and looks good.

That is a very sharp clamp for sure I might look at that one for my Pro-Ject RM 1.3

I have seen recommended the weight for the Pro-Ject RM 1.3. So I will go in that direction. The clamp has worked out good, but is 2oz, so maybe something heavier is in my future. The Bren1 is 13oz or so. Any issues with suspended tables?

I'm just getting in to this vinyl. Years ago when I was young, I had a Dual, later a Technics sl-5( still have it) We played our records back then. No clamps, weights or any
accessories, except disc washer. It just seems to me that a one pound weight is not what the tt motor was designed to spin. And I am most likely wrong.

Your sl-5 has enough torque to make a margarita. I table weight isn't going to make it flinch, but I'm not sure you can close that cover over one.

I'm using the TTWeights clamp that you mention (on my PL-570)...I love it, and, visually, it really add a nice bit of "class" to an already beautiful table, much like it would on your Technics.

I have one of those Audio Technica weights that came with the SL-1100A, which also works great.

I think you'll like either...though the TTWeights one looks cooler.

Could anyone elaborate on this issue of spindle vibration with a DD TT?

I hear ya Back in the day, it was all about playing the new records. Now, I find myself wanting to get the most out of my tables. The clamp has helped some in that regard. So has the wrapping the tonearm on my Technics tables. Just part of the tweaking one gets into. Do you need any of it? Naa, just enjoy:thmbsp:

i recommend clamps over weights any day. the idea is to firm up the record to platter interface. when records are cut, the acetate is drawn to the platter of the cutting lathe with vacuum. ideally, thats what i would prefer but a clamp is more cost effective. i use a sota reflex (not cheap) but also an orsonic ds-200g which is available on a'gon for $80 plus shipping:

its spring loaded and works like the reflex which is strictly mechanical. i have dealt with the seller before and he is trustworthy.

Hard rubber hockey puck is my "clamp." A hole drilled just smaller than the spindle allows me to push it onto the spindle, and the rubber acts as a clamp on the spindle.

It also seconds as a "knob" to spin the platter when using my discwasher.
