Record Cleaning Machine Motor (Reversible) - newbie...

Hi people!

Over the past 48 hours I have been absorbing all sorts of information from audiokarma about DIY record cleaning machines. However, I'm having problems grasping the concept of what motor to use (besides ice cream makers, pasta makers, etc). One of the features I'd like this record cleaning machine to have implemented is a fully reversible motor.

Instead, I was looking at something like this:

I already have a switching dc power supply, and it looks as though it would be easy to adapt to a direct-drive platter bearing (I'm thinking a DD turntable is the way to go). What are your thoughts on this motor? Should I email the seller with any questions on the performance? I have a fairly "good" knowledge of electronics, but zero experiences with mechanics.

This is the one I used on my DIY RCM, brand new, from ebay for $30, and is reversible - works like a champ

Do an ebay search using this: 2- Hurst 12 RPM gearmotors 6Z539, 115v, NEW in Box USA

This seller has 2 for $5 less than what I paid for mine.

This is essentially the motor I use in mine. 15rpm @ 12vdc. I run mine at about 6v for about 6-8 RPM. (I feel I get better results at the slower rotational speed.) DC motors are no-brainers to reverse, and it's got plenty of torque for an RCM.

I believe my motor was a little more expensive, but cheaper shipping, maybe $12 total, and a couple of weeks to get here from wherever - I forget.

Sorry to overlook your original question.

I think that 24vdc motor you are considering should work fine. You can vary the speed with the voltage and find a target you like.
