You have to wonder whether it's really a "collection", or just 30-40k records. A "collection" seems to imply that some thought went into assembling it -- so that it wouldn't include, say, 500 Firestone Christmas albums.

Yeah, the only thing I can visualize is a musty basement just packed in with the kind of albums even thrift stores can't get rid of. A few diamonds wouldn't be worth the effort of disposal IMO.

One of those cases where even a bad picture or two would clear up a lot.

Even at 25 cents a record, it would cost over $7,000 for the lot. Those records aren't going to be going anywhere soon unless they pretty much give them away. I got a free 2,000 record lot on Craigslist a few years ago and it took four of us over an hour to load up two trucks. I can't even imagine moving 30-40,000 records. You figure 50 to 60 LPs average per box, that's around 550 to over 700 boxes of records to move.

It's hard to get around that math.

Even if there are 1000 worthwhile LPs in there (so, maybe 20 boxes -- and that's being extremely optimistic), you're going to wind up paying someone to dispose of the hundreds and hundreds of boxes you moved and sorted through. Even "free" looks like it would be way too much to pay.

No it isn't. There was something like that nearby a few years ago. What a bunch of junk! Two Van fulls about. Some nut grabbed it all, and it wasn't me.

I know exactly what 30,000+ LP's looks like, that's the estimate of what's in the radio station library at the station I'm part of. A large box truck could easily be filled to capacity with records left over. In my worst nightmare I'd never want to have to deal with moving that many LP's.

40,000 LP records with covers would be about 15,000 lb. Give it or take.
