Record or Used Gear in NYC

Hello everybody.
I am visiting New York until Saturday, and was wondering if anyone knows a good record store or place to look at some nice gear. I always like to try and find a music shop when I am in a new city.

There was a long thread about this before/during the summer. Enjoy your stay! There are so many great things to do, great things to eat, great things to hear... Don't sleep too much!

Pick up a copy of the Village Voice (if it's still being published... I have a vague recollection that they stopped putting it into print, a terrible thing if true)... Anyway, if it is available it will have page after page after page of live music listings towards the back. IMO stay away from Times Square unless you want the Disney version of NYC. Great restaurants all around, especially Upper West Side, and East and West Villages. Hell, there's great restaurants on nearly every block in every district. Soho has also become quite commercial but it's still fun. I'd also avoid Little Italy for food... mostly tourist traps and there's great Italian to be found elsewhere (Arthur Ave. in The Bronx, for one place). Anyway, I'm a suburbanite. We've got some Brooklynites and Manhattanites among us, hopefully they'll chime in.

You didn't say what kind of music you were looking for, but if it's Jazz,
try the Jazz Record Center on W.26th Street between 7th and 8th.

I don't recall the name, but I found a nice record store near the Village that had a comically obese cat. Tomorrow I am going to JR Computer/Music, and Stereo Exchange.
