I was at the local thrift and found this album. I remember one song from the album called hocus pocus and I just had to have it.
The whole album is really good. Its kind of a cross of Emerson lake and palmer and pink floyd. Very very good to sit and listen to.
Happy listening:music:

Nice! I picked up a mint copy of this at a yard sale a couple years back - Jan Akkerman is a monster on this record. Enjoy!!

I love this album too. As fun as Hocus Pocus is, the album really starts on the second song. My favorite Focus album is Hamberger Concerto. They were a super talented band. I understand that there were artistic differences between T Van Lear and Jan Ackerman that ultimately led to the demise of the group. Too bad, because they were as good as any prog rock band of the era.

Can anyone confirm...if I remember right on the 45, Side A was the song Hocus Pocus by Focus. Side B was the song Focus by Hocus Pocus. Is this true?

Focus and Golden Earring are my favorite Dutch rock groups.

A slight thread jack, but have you heard The Naked Truth by Golden Earring? It came out during that phase when every band and its mother was doing an unplugged album. However, The Naked Truth may be the best unplugged album I have heard.

Oh and I love Hocus Pocus. Their 3rd album, which I think is just entitled 3 but I'm not sure, is outstanding as well.

I saw them in Houston back in the day. Seats were up front. A great show, but LOUD! Got some toilet paper from the RR and stuffed my ears. It was the only way I could stay in those seats! Fortunately we partook in enough of God's plant that no one noticed the TP... :smoke:

I have Focus' "Dutch Masters" LP - which is a compilation album. Have always loved it. "Moving Waves" is very beautiful. You would know more than their hit "Hocus Pocus" by Focus. "Sylvia" and "House of the King" were minor hits.

I believe "House of the King" was used for many sports shows in the '70s. It SOUNDS A LOT LIKE JETHRO TULL and is often confused with that group.

Yes. Those were the days. When music was spread from friend to friend instead of the Internet. And if you lived in an apartment building with doors opening into a courtyard, from neighbor to neighbor, playing Frisbee. Breaking a window playing catch with a football ... whoops! :D.

I have that LP. I think it is way over-the-top and rather empty prog, and yet I listen to it way to often to actually say it's bad. "Hocus Pocus" is really something.

I purchased the 1993 CD release "The Best of FOCUS - hocus pocus" a couple years back. Brings back memories of being a teenager in the 1970s.

I knew I couldn't be alone listening to it. It is just so darn good:yes:
I need to get a cleaner copy or CD and I definitely need other albums by them.
I think their lack of airplay must have been due to their length of tracks. Good for listening..Not so good for the 3 minute or so maximum airplay.
It`s a gem though:music:

Progressive Rock meets Swiss Yodeling= Cool and interesting rock and roll! I enjoy Focus! I even have Hocus Pocus in my Seeburg AY 160 jukebox.
