Record storage

Wanted a few portable record storage racks, also wanted them adjustable for the time that there’s not enough to fill them up.

Made the first one this afternoon, 22” long so it could fit into a cabinet if wanted, they will hold about 100 albums when fully extended..

Looks nice. I like the adjustability of it. Plus you can make them for all the sizes to keep things looking good instead of having to just deal with what you can find.

If you get past the prototype phase and suddenly decide to make a bunch of them I bet quiet a few here would be interested.

Thanks Andre, it’s an old German Settler’s stone house here in south Texas, the stones are 14”x18” with some being 12 feet in length, most are 3-4 feet long.

It’s a very simple design, and if one used dowels instead of square rails it would make it a much simpler build…if someone had a good way to drill the holes in the dowels that is….

Appreciate the comments, especially from a talented creator/craftsman like your self….

Yes, one could use pine or cedar and turn out a bunch of them, shipping would probably be more than the material cost…prefer maple, black walnut, or some exotic, so the cost would probably be too high formany.

I’ve had that more years than I can remember. I keep it in my “formal living room “ to organize what ever I happen to be listening to at the time. It still holds all my Christmas CDs… haha

I recently picked up ten Wine boxes at an auction for about $40 that seemed a good size for LPs and 45s. Only issue was that the boxes had dividers slotted in and glued at the bottom. Sooooo, ran them across the table saw with blade raised high to cut off bottoms, chisel, pry and plane bottoms down flush, insert a single divider (can also trim down a bit and force it in afterwards) and reglue the bottom with same orientation and clamp. I finished these up with some boiled linseed oil to warm them up and highlight the joinery. Each box holds about 40-50 LPs and probably over 100 45s.
I'm using them for overflow, and the 'To Be Cleaned' pile and move between rooms for listening.
