I have an Electrohome 850 with a BSR AA50 turntable. According to the manual it takes an ST9 stylus. When installed two new styluses (NOS and brand new) I noticed it skips on some records typically in the same spots but not always.Tracking force is set to 5g.Using the same record that skips not touching the unit from where it sits,I installed a ST8 stylus no more skip. I also tried using an ST10 to see skipped. Possibly missing something here

Most likely the ST8 stylus has a higher compliance and slightly lower output than the ST9.
Those old BSR styli varied widely in compliance and the higher the compliance, the lower the output.
The lower complaince styli were used in the lower cost models that needed high output.
If the ST8 is tracking ok and the output is satisfactory , go with that.

Those old ceramic cartridges needed a lot of force to transmit stylus movement through the cantilever into the rubber elastomer yoke, then into the ceramic elements. “Compliance” is a relative thing with ceramic cartridges. The only high compliance ceramic I’m *aware* of is the 1962 Weathers LDM cartridge, which tracks at 1.2 grams. Rare, but great cartridge!

For ceramic carts, all are not created equal. The compliant yoke on some are harder/stiffer than others, causing the stylus to bounce.
