RIP 2022
Oh my... you mean this stuff may have been discussed before?
I actually dropped my record weight on to a brand new record the other night. Left a nice little dent. I think I'm done with record weights.
Dees06 I did the same clumsy thing dropping weight on a mint record, weight never saw light of day after that. Clamping systems that encompass the outer edge of records are the real deal effective and not cheap. Expecting center clamps/weights to accomplish the same is unrealistic. Along with mats, cables these items can add up $ and usually don't amount to any improvement other than looking pretty as zoombrewer77 said.
I have been toying around with the idea of getting a record weight to see what benefits it may provide.
I am looking at a Viborg weight with a mass of 280 grams (just under 10 ounces). I am wondering though about the possibility of damaging my tables with the added weight. I have a Garrard SL-72B (suspended platter) and a Pioneer PL-S70 (non-suspended platter).
Does anyone have any experience with using record weights with these models?
Thanks for any replies.
