Record weight safe to use on my tables?

I have clamps, and I have weights, and like others, can't really hear a difference. I do remember seeing a clamp that clamps the record on the outter edge of the record, which I think would be effect if you have records that are wrapped.
 
I actually dropped my record weight on to a brand new record the other night. Left a nice little dent. I think I'm done with record weights.

Whew. Yeah I think you just convinced my clumsy ass to never even try one.

They’re pretty though.
 
Dees06 I did the same clumsy thing dropping weight on a mint record, weight never saw light of day after that. Clamping systems that encompass the outer edge of records are the real deal effective and not cheap. Expecting center clamps/weights to accomplish the same is unrealistic. Along with mats, cables these items can add up $ and usually don't amount to any improvement other than looking pretty as zoombrewer77 said.

I'm not one to judge people making choices based on aesthetic alone. I got an AR because I thought they were attractive, and as it turns out they sound great too.
 
too bad about the record damage. i have never had that happen fortunately. i have snagged a cantilever or three and that just turns into self loathing. i scratched my copy of midnight sugar but not on the main cut. that was on one of the two 45rpm Cisco discs.

I would consider weight that is less than 25% of platter mass, should be acceptable. Main concern is bearing life. 25% should be within design margin.
