Rectangular and Halo Getter ECC83...Sound Check

ODYOFAEL

The Voice of Vintage HiFi
Topic is regarding the Mullard Jan/1958 ECC83 long plate with a rectangular getter and a Mullard May/1959 ECC83 long plate with a HALO getter. Will they work as a pair? Will they sound the same assuming they have close numbers from a conductance test? I'll be using them for my phono stage. I want to hear from the experts. Thanks in advance?:thmbsp::music:

What are you using them IN, and what position do you want to put them in.

Should be fine. The "Getter" trough differences are not operationally relevant. All they did was hold the barium before it was heated by induction while being evacuated by pulling a vacuum, getting the silver coloring on the side or top. After that they are basically "Window Dressing".

As long as the tubes test good and are in the same ball-park they'll be fine in a phono section. You really don't need to "MATCH" them for phono sections. More critical applications don't usually require it for small signal tubes, but it's nice to have. The only tubes I match are OUTPUT TUBES. If my 12ax7 (ecc83) are anywhere above the Pass / Fail line they get rolled. Surprisingly I've had ecc83's that tested weak to failing, and still played good.

Thanks to all. I can't wait for my other tube to arrive in the mail. I won this one on ePray for $56. It's a 1958 Mul, rectangular getter with the long plate. I have one waiting for a partner. Here are pics. The one in the middle is the one I've won. Hope they work well together.
