Rectilinear IIIs w/ tube amp

I have the lowboys and was wondering if anyone has tried them with a tube amp ( 25 watts or so). Room isn't that large, but I know that these aren't the most efficient speakers. This is from the Julian Hirsch review: "The impedance of the Rectilinear III lowboy was exceptionally uniform - between 10 and 20 ohms over the full audio range except at 20,000 Hz, where it reached the rated impedance of 8 ohms." It would seem that they woulb be a fairly benign load for a tube amp, no?

I have a pair of III Highboys. I also have a Pilot 232 tube amp that puts out 17 watts per channel. I ran the IIIs with the Pilot only one time. The tube amp just didn't have the power to push the IIIs. These speakers are VERY power hungry. I initially ran them with an old Kenwood with 60 wpc. Even that didn't seem to do it and I eventually went to an amp putting out 155 wpc. It seems to me that the IIIs sound better the more juice you give them.

You're probably right...Rectilinear never published sensitivity ratings (I don't know if any manufacturer did at that time). I inherited them from my father in law and just received a packet full of original Rectilinear documentation from my mother in law..everything from the original warranty cards to a complete dealer listing to reviews and owners manuals. Very interesting stuff...my father in law bought 4 of them and used them with a Marantz 4430 quad receiver. My wife tells me that she remembers coming home from shopping with her mother and all the paintings would be askew...he loved his jazz.
