Rectilinear Speakers like these any good?

Hey again, iamdgw!
You've got more than enough juice to run the Highboys!! Also, I agree, 60 bucks DOES seem like a lot for a thrift store!! With that said, I don't think you'll be dissapointed with your purchase. These speakers are real stunners!

If they're still there and you get them, please let us know what you think of them. GOOD LUCK!!!

Alas, I was there within 5 minutes of open today and they were gone!
Someone snagged them between 6:30 and 8 last night.
If it was meant to be, it was mean to be. I've a enough speakers anyway. (according to my wife). Next time I'll know better though.
The Rectilinear XII's were still there though, just not attractive enough for me.
esp. at that price.

HI

I found some pics of my Rectilinear XIIs, so here they are:

Rectilinear1a.jpg

You can clearly see the name and model number on the front.

Rectilinear2a.jpg

Fairly dull pic of the back but the usual controls for the crossover but one knob is missing.

Rectilinear3a.jpg

You can see the drivers here although the woofer is a replacement. The mid and tweeter are originals.

Enjoy. I don't use these any more but I am trying to find some way to use them, maybe in the shed. They gave me 20 years of sterling service and I enjoyed a lot of music listening to these.

Pictures of another set of XII's

Here are pictures of a pair that I picked up at a Gsale last year -- (I'm going to try wiping the grill with a damp cloth to see if it restores the original darker color, as Snade mentioned)

Comparing the photos each of you have submitted, the mids look different - I wonder if one is unoriginal, or if the XII was issued with two varieties. Does anyone know? I would expect an octagonal Philips whizzer cone mid in these - SpeakerLabFan's pair look like they could be it.

One pair has the port closed off, by looks of it. Grilles look totally different, too. They are both supposed to be Model XII's, right?

It is a bit of a mystery isn't it?

I figure they must have had 2 models. The woofers on SpeakerLabFan's don't look the same as the ones I had either, grilles are definitely different but the tweeter is identical, down to the 8ohm writing on the cone. My woofers had black cones and I'm pretty sure the speakers were original when I got them as it was back in the 1980s.

If I get a chance I'll have a look at the mid on mine and see if I can find an old woofer (the rubber had gone on one of mine and years ago someone blew a woofer at a party on the other).
