So I have a pair of Rectilinear XI's paired with Harman Kardon 430 & Systemdek XII. I just purchased a pair of Advent Laureate from my local thrift store for $50. The cabinets are in great condition but one of the woofers is damaged. I'm looking to refoam these when I have time. My question is, which speaker do yall think is "better"?

RECTILINEAR XI vs ADVENT LAUREATE ???

Should replace my Rectilinears for the Advents or... I read that these Advents were not designed by Henry Kloss and are actually under Jensen. From what I know about Jensen, they aren't very good but I could be wrong. I know the Rectilinears are made in the 60s and these Advents in the 90s. Have any of yall ever owned a pair of these speakers? I would love to know more about the Advents and even the Rectilinear. Any advice or opinion will help. Thanks so much!

Advents are usually under-rated.
I have a pair of laureates and they sound amazing! Better than all the Infinitys, I've heard. The tweeter on those Advents sounds like butter.
Never heard the Rectilinears though.

Not familiar with that particular Advent model, but I do like the earliest Advents (Original Large Advent, Smaller Advent...) quite a bit. Am also a fan of the early Rectilinear models. The XI is a very nice two-way ported speaker with 10" woofer and phenolic ring tweeter. These would benefit greatly from a replacement of the single 8.2uF cap.

Since you already purchased the Advents why don't you refoam them and do a side by side comparison with your Rectilinears? And I would suggest recapping both as well.

I have picked up a few sets of the Laureate over the last several years.

This is my favorite speaker EVER!!!! Best $25 I have ever spent!!!

refoamed and put new fabric on my current set.

I have a set of Heritage and prodigy as well.....I'll be finished with them soon

This is the trifecta as far as I'm concerned. I almost bought some martin logans but
I just couldn't get over the Bang for the Buck in this series of Advent speakers.

jensen may have owned it but Advent was still present in this set

Never had the Rectilinears, Heard them long ago but forget how they sounded
Now the Advent Jades I have.... paid $25.00 & never thought of selling them.
They have a sound that made me turn around & enjoy(Like while in grocery store,
getting free samples of some free salsa & chips. Stopping in your tracks & going
back 2 buy some). I've had a lot of older Advents but none sounding as sweet
as these. I use them as my speaker of choice when I first get a different amp
Oh ya, I traded a pair of Advent Eternity for an older Yamaha receiver

Yea advent prodigy, laureate, heritage etc IMHO beat those old advents. Old advents are well rather ugly looking IMHO. These look elegant and those hardwood caps etc totally awesome. I even like the baby advents.
Cool.
