I like both! The Tannoy Reds are some of the best Dual Concentrics extant. The Monitor Golds are the only thing better that Tannoy made.
Having just heard Tannoy Churchill Widebands (a friend just managed to buy a pair!

), I have to beg to differ.
The Churchill Wideband is simply the best sounding Tannoy, IMHO. The Blacks, Reds and Golds are very good, as are the HPDs and the current Prestige models (Kensington, Glenair, etc), but the Churchill is, as designer Mark Kinzie put it, "the most accurate monitor ever built". IMHO, that's not overstating it. Other than it only going down to 22 Hz (ONLY

), I can't think of anything I'd change, PERIOD. If a Churchill was flat to 15 Hz, it'd just about be the closest thing to an ideal speaker I've ever considered...
But, as to the question in hand- the vintageTannoys, IMHO, just do things the JBL D130/175DLH or D130/075 combos can't. Low end extension, smoothness through the upper mids, coherence, that's just a few things the Tannoys do better...

Gordon.
