Dual TG28 Reel-To-Reel

Hi;

Anyone heard of a Dual TG28 reel-to-reel? I have a chance to get one locally (playback belt snipped off). Any suggestions or specs on this unit? Or anyone that actually owns one of these decks? I can't seem to find any info at all on the web but a few pictures.

Any help much appreciated;

I searched myself. There isn't much info available. I did locate a site where the service manual is available (manuals-in-pdf.com) for $22. That was all I could find beside one picture.

That would be a nice collector's item. I would guess it is solid state, as - from the picture - it appears to be a stereo unit. And, in fact, from the picture it appears like there is enviable versatility in selecting tracks.

And the picture also shows the deck housed in a Dual TT plinth of sorts. I can make out the slot for sliding the dust cover in the back.

Unless the money is crazy, I would buy this unit.

This deck was made in 1964. Not many made their way to the USA. Expensive then. 30-15,000 Hz at 3 3/4 IPS, and 20-20,000 Hz at 7 1/2 IPS. Actually a tube deck in reality. Good performer but short of the Tandberg 64 series in performance then. Tandberg was the main European machine sold in the states then. ReVox didn't begin selling their decks in the USA until 1967. Same goes for Teac. Dual turntables were imported then and gained popularity with the 1009 and 1019 then. They may have imported a few here. United Audio was Dual's importer and supporter from 1964-1983.
 
The Revox came into the US before '67. Revox exported both the F and G36. I seem to remember the A-77 coming in either '66 or '67.

The first ReVox machines were gray market or private imports to the USA. Elpa Marketing first marketed them and imported them to the USA regularly in 1967. The G36 was imported the last year they made them and then the A 77 series onward. This is coming from Jack Clark of J-M Technical Arts. Canada had ReVox machines before the USA did officially. Studers then were imported by Gotham Audio as early as 1964. The original A 77 arrived in 1968. The Dual looks more modern than it is. :tresbon:
 
The F36 was sold in Boston by - I can not remember the retailer but it was a major and dealer for Marantz, Scott, McIntosh, Fisher, Crown, Ampex and event the Lee sound Chamber. I can not believe they would be involved with gray marker Revox. I know they were displaying them prior to my high school graduation so pre-'66. Also remember a G36, not a MKIII so earlier than '67 from Audio Lab in Cambridge that had their sticker on it. They put the stickers on in the early to mid '60s on their custom installs so they also were selling Revox about prior to '67 as the MKIII G36 was the import version of the tub unit that year along with the A-77. It was the only time I had a Tandberg 64 and G36 side by side. Could not decide which I liked better and sold both soon after and got my first A-77.
 
Umm, this is supposed to be about Dual TG28. Anyone actually has an idea what year it is from? Not the Revox or anything else...
 
Hi, i have one of these, excellent machine, i thought it was newer than 1964, the service manual i have doesn't have a date on it.
Specs are 35-13000 Hz at 3 3/4 IPS. 35-18000 Hz at 7 1/5 IPS.
I can scan the manual and send you a copy if you like.

I know it's been many years, but do you still have the service manual?
