Reference 450r by Quadraflex

I have the 240R, it's the only receiver I've ever bought brand new. Got it at the now defunct Tacoma Pacific Stereo.
It's "vintage" but I don't treat it as such. I really do need to pull the top and dust it out, like with all the other gear I have.

Good deal on a 180R on the bay as we speak... for anyone following this that is curious to try one of these receivers. There's a 300R and a 610T automatic TT too. None of them mine, of course!

Looking forward to learning some more about this stuff, Pacific!

Quadraflex 450R

Just got done with a scavenger hunt and came up with this bad boy for $10. Found a couple of crap speakers to plug into it at the site and both worked. Have yet to push my CV's with it yet but I am expecting good things after reading all of your posts. Only down side to this reciever I have found yet is......

1. Power button work its way off if you are careless (not so bad that it needs repair)

2. Dirty. Looked like someone had this in their garage for the last 20 years or so.

With everything lit up I have to admit.....it is damn sexy. Probably going to unhook my Lafayette lr1500 and hook this up and see how she does.

Edit: Dammit! My freaking stereo cabinet is not big enough! Not wide enough to be exact.

Just picked up a clean Quadraflex 450R. I know from reading and seeing Mr. PacificStereo's posts that it was the store brand for Pacific Stereo, where I happened to purchased my first receiver in 1976-La Mesa, CA store. (Pioneer SX-750 which I still use to this day!) Any idea of the cost at the time year they made these? (It has a six digit S/N 102400).

I have three Quardraflex 650 FET-Rs, one 450R and two 300Rs. I love all of them. They not only sound great but they look awesome. They can also be had for next to nothing. They are definitely under the radar pieces but I think their sound matches up pretty damn close to the Pioneer SX-**80 and SX-**50 series. When and if I see more for a good price I will continue to buy them.

I know. Way old post. Lol. But I'm seriously thinking about buying a 450R .I love that look and want to try one in this series. Price is low. Cosmetically great. Does need a little work. My question to you is even though the price is low, should I wait for a 650 fert r , to come up for a decent price? Or should I just use this one to see if I like the sound?

I'm about to get a 450r in the mail tomorrow. It is in great condition bur has one weaker channel. I've seen both 60 watts and 45 watts per channel for these. Which is accurate? I bought it because I think they are awesome looking, and I wanted to hear one in person.. Hopefully it won't be a hard or expensive fix though.

45 WPC. If you start to get popping or static sounds, there are transistors on the driver board that will need replacing. I have seen this on many from that line.

I have also had many including the 650FET R.

Thanks Rob. Does make sense that it's 45 watts per channel. Since it's a 450. But I see both 45 and 60 online. It didn't arrive today. It'll be here tomorrow. It's one more going to the tech. I already have a Sony STR-6800SD I bought online at my tech. At least I can listen to this one [Reference 450r] and hear what it sounds like before it goes to the shop. The Sony had such low sound you couldn't tell what it sounded like. How did you like your 650 FET R ?

I liked the 650 just fine. There was just something about it that didn't give me the giggles like my G-8000 or G-871DB.

I indeestand. Sometimes they are just fine. Nothing wrong. You just aren't crazy about them. Sounds like we are talking about women. Ha ha

Beautiful machine with some of the best feeling potentiometers that have a "clickyness" to them that's just flat out satisfying. They sound pretty good too.
