Refinishing Klipsch KG4's

Water rings, burn marks and general neglect left me with no choice but to refinish. Some Klean Strip from Home Depot, careful electric sanding, and candlelight colored oil stain and they look like new again. Problem is the black back, inner front and accents on the pedestals. Not sure what black paint to use here. Is it actually a black oil stain and not a paint. Is it a matte, eggshell gloss black. At a loss on what to do.

Fair enough. You can the issue with the black finish coming off in the inside front of the speaker.

I usually use Sherwin Williams black latex enamel on my speakers. Have them give you a small sample and see if it's a match.

This may sound like a crazy idea, but it works--Kiwi Black Paste Shoe Polish. Just lay it on heavy, let dry and buff out-just like you would paste car wax Use it all the time for scratches on the backs of speakers or driver boards where total refinishing is not necessary. Even used it on the whole cabinets of some JBL Studio Black monitors to clean up little scuffs. Just do the whole thing so it comes out even. A lot easier and less messy than painting.

The shoe polish will work. But if you want paint, I would use an flat oil based paint and thin it significantly--say 20% thinner, so it goes on thinly. You can't thin waterborne paint that much or it might not coalesce properly. Flat black rattle can spray would be a good choice too, just remember to mask everything you don't want to get painty.

Thank you all for the replies. I'm thinking the spray is the direction I am going to go. More work but will be nice and even.

Always use foam rubber rollers on all painted speakers.
