Rega planar 1 upgrade

Hey,

First post here, but I am in need of some guidance.

I have a brand new Rega Planar 1 from 2013 that I am trying to upgrade, mainly the subplatter and the platter.

I stumbled across this page
http://www.fidelitydesignsltd.co.uk/index.html
which has these items
http://www.fidelitydesignsltd.co.uk/platters/platters.html
http://www.fidelitydesignsltd.co.uk/subplatters/subplatters.html
Do anyone of you have any idea of the quality of these items? Do you have any tips on other pages?

Or should I just chunk my money into a pro ject classic instead?...

Thanks in advance

Regards,
Dennis

Brand new, 2013, want to upgrade?
Have you been using this table since then or did you just acquire it?
How often do you play records and how many records to you own?
If you just got this table then enjoy it as it is for a while, leave it alone
Use it up and then decide if you want to spend more

It was a gift from my mother, she bought it in 2013 and was hospitalised shortly after.

I just got it.

I have around 140 records, they are all new and I've spent a substantial amount on them. I've been spending atleast 1-3h each day for the last month listening to LPs.

The main issue is that the platter has a slight wobble to it and as I like to sit still and look at the record spinning, it annoys me. So I'm mainly trying to fix that.

I have read and heard more than one report of that specific Rega having that issue (platter wobble)
Most if not all were resolved but I don't remember the details - I am sure if you search it you will find results
Are you just now unboxing and using the table and seeing this problem?
If so, I would contact the distributor and explain the situation, they may assist you with it
It was a fairly common complaint with the RP-1
Do you have an invoice?
Hope your mother has recovered

Thanks for the help.

I've googled quite a bit and the common solution seems involve either changing the platter or the sub platter and as both should improve the sound quality; I might as well do both.

I only have the original box and the markings on that, so no use there. It's been 4 years.... I'll try to contact the distributed and see how that goes.

However, if that turns out to be a dead end, do you have any tips of a platter/subplatter?

Thanks for the empathy.

So am I correct in assuming that the table just sat unused since 2013 and you are now just learning that there is an issue?
If that IS the case, talk to the distributor first before you start worrying over sub-platter upgrades
First thing I would do is determine where the wobble is
Check the platter, either with a straight edge or a flat table (that you know is FLAT) and watch the sub-platter turning without the platter on it
This will let you know what to tell the Rega folks
Does your table have the resin platter? It may be the problem just as well as the sub-platter might be

Get a Groove Tracer subplatter. Major performance improvement, more stable, less of the subtle wavering. The most audible improvement for the outlay. Made my old Planar 2 make music and let me hear the music and not the Rega. My Planar 2 was a gift from Steve Lauerman of Lauerman Imports, he was the original Rega importer in the USA and based in Knoxville, Tennessee's Old City. He loved and was an ardent vinylphile.

I use the Tangospinner Astor subplatter. No more wow and flutter and pitch is bang on
