Rek o Kut n33h

Hi I recently purchased an old rek o kut n33h belt drive turntable in pretty good cosmetic condition for 125. I'm planning on giving it a complete overhaul and putting one of the esoteric sound jelco arms on it. It came with an old shure transcription arm but no headshell and it seems impossible to find one.

How good is this model once properly restored? I plan on replacing the motor grommets, the motor cap, possibly the wiring, the belt, and cleaning and replacing the oil in the bearing. I have some high quality super lube synthetic oil, will this work in the well? Should I try to disassemble the motor? Any advice on that? Ive watched some videos online of a guide on fixing this up but they didn't take a part the motor just cleaned it.

Any thoughts on what this is comparable to once restored with the jelco arm? I love the style and appearance of the table.

I recently picked up an N44H with Micropoise arm. Did a total cleanup/lube. Still have to install the grommets I ordered and new belt. As it is now (prior to new grommets and new belt) it spins silently. I used Tri-Flow Teflon lube on the main bearing after cleaning and let it spin constantly overnight. Giant motor and really nice build quality throughout. I am really impressed with this deck. With a Jelco, and the cleanup you mention, I don't see any reason why these Rek O Kut belt drives couldn't compete with any other non-suspended sub-chasis belt drive table out there as long as speed is on point. Building a heavy plinth out of 3/4" ply soon to further damp any vibrations. I too have a Shure M232 Transcription arm w/ broken headshell that I intend to fix/rewire. The headshells are indeed very tough to find. I wish Pat's or Best Audio would offer a replacement, but I realize the demand must be miniscule.

I cleaned the well yesterday, and reoiled it using the super lube oil I have. It seems to spin forever now, and is a bit quieter. There's still a little noise from the motor but it isn't terrible.

I already ordered the jelco arm from esoteric sound plus a few other things and a new belt. I think the belt that's on there now isnt the correct one because it spins fast even if I try to adjust it.

Should be a fun project and I'm interested to head how it sounds once it's finished. It seems very solid and well built.

I wish I could build a new plinth but I don't have the tools or space to do so. Maybe I'll try dampening or adding some weight to the underside of the top plate.
