Rek-O-kut Rondine 2 Info Thread

Hi folks. I recently received a Rek-O-kut Rondine 2 out of a cabinet console. There is very little information on these, so I would like to start a thread that combines whatever it is you might know about these tables. When they were made, how they performed, where you first listened to one, How rek-o-kut is pronounced etc. Hopefully the next time somebody runs across one of these tables, they will find the information they need right here in this thread.

My Rondine 2 is belt driven with cast aluminum plinth. I received instruction manual and base pattern to go with the machine--which I am still studying. I haven't found a manual or pattern available online yet so I will gladly get those documents digitized and uploaded to the database for posterity.

My understanding is that it is functionally more or less an N33H, and I think there's a reasonable amount of info out there about it and K33H/N34H variants. Does that seem right? Put it in a heavy plinth, change the ball bearing and put it to good use!

Any information on the Rondine 2 uploaded to the AK Database or posted here would be much appreciated. As you say, there isn't much information out there about the Rondine 2.
 
If its a N 33 or similar, belt thickness affects speed. Esoteric has what they claim is the correct thickness and an isolation upgrade to boot.
 
Yes, Esoteric Sound has the correct belt. I have the Rondine 2 and tore apart the tone-arm and motor. I took photos of the process and will upload them Sunday.
mccuskerkt, you state yours has a cast aluminum plinth, could you post a photo of it?

I had uploaded some pictures of my Rondine 2 on this thread last week and had issues editing so deleted the post. Here's a new set for reference for folks down the road.

With my Rondine 2, good news is that all functions work, but it's going to need an overhaul.

The Auto-Poise function hesitates and needs pickup adjustment, significant static when the arm travels, hum, motor gets to and holds speed. Pabst Motor.

New belt from Esoteric, I've ordered from them in the past. Has anyone ordered their tonearms wires? I'm guessing I may need to rewire the AP 320 arm.

My plan is to try a Denon DL-103 and SUT with the Rodine 2.

A scan posted to this thread of the Rodine 2 manual would be great.

Those little Synchron clock motors do not age well. The attached gear boxes REALLY do not age well. I had one on the color wheel for an aluminum Christmas tree, after much poking around I found a new Chinese-made gear-reduction motor on eBay with similar specs. The voltage and RPM should be stamped into the gear box.
 
wow sorry everybody I kinda fell of the map there for a while. I still intend to get all of my info posted and I need to get started on building a base for these--it might be a little while yet
 
Replaced the RCA cables and ground wire on my Rondine 2 and the hum is gone. Sounds nice but I'll have to rewire the tonearm at some point, static is present when the arm travels manually. Don't hear static during play.

Another turntable project needs to be brought to completion so the Rondine 2 will have to wait.
 
Good news everybody! I sold my AR XA table today so it's time to start on this Rek-O-Kut project. As promised, I scanned and uploaded the Installation and Operation manual, the S-230 and S260 tonearm manual, and the base template. i am not sure how often they update the akdatabase. Just in case you need it sooner, you can access it here (the tonearm manual is really low quality to meet the size restrictions)

It makes the turntable automatic. The mechanism needs to be cleaned and lubed, it hesitates a touch.

The arm has static when it travels so it needs a rewire (I assume) down the road, which I am not looking forward to.
