I have had good relay cover removal over the yrs. results by using a U shaped spring steel IC chip puller used for pulling large socketed ICs.

I think it's important to note that this thread dates from 2004. At that time these relays, with PC mount pins where extremely hard to find and expensive when you did find them. The go to source for parts was Digikey and neither they nor Mouser carried them. You had to go to a wholesaler and deal with minimum order quantities. Cleaning them made a lot of sense then.
Now, 20 years later, these vintage pieces are pushing 50 years old and the relays are easily sourced and much less expensive. They are a weak point in a piece of 50 year old audio gear. It makes more sense to just put a new one in.

In 14 months your thread will be old enough to buy a beer in the USA. You should take it to the local pub for some fun when that happens.

Yes. That`s the same kind of springy pinch style IC puller that I have used successfully in the past for pulling larger mounted relay`s mildly snapped into place relay covers that were kind of buried in their equipment chassis with no difficulty, not the small type relay as indicated earlier that it didn`t work well for.
