Remember Karl Haas?

I used to listen to him in the morning on Public Radio. Haas had some nice classical shows. I found a few of his old shows on the Internet Archive. He died years ago, it was nice to hear his voice again.

Frequently think of him, miss him. Respectfully disagree on the other.
Was thinking of him the other day about "What makes it Great" as an approach to music appreciation, would like to find an an educated explanation for The Shaggs peculiar status, for instance.

Well, if you go back to Public Radio in the 70's, 80's it was all different than what we got now. We used to get opera on Saturdays. It's all gone. But it may depend on your local and how your station is run. I'm just speaking for my local.

There is a lot of Haas audio at the Archive. Glad someone saved them. I looked for a Hass archive on the web and could not find any. You would think all his shows would be preserved someplace.

I still get Opera on Saturday afternoons in Eastern Tennessee, WUOT-FM 91.9 and WUTC-FM 90.5 are the primary Classical FM stations available where I live.

The sole (original) LP is nonetheless, from a musical (and cultural?) standpoint, a masterpiece.

P.S. Jeez, now I feel like listening to Philosophy Of The World, but already had a (new to me) concert by The Cure (Paris, 2019) ready to roll. Hmm...

Speaking of what makes it great, Marin Alsop is now being interviewed on NPR concerning Beethoven's ninth symphony.
