Sorry gearhead, the power switch is a rotary, with 5 positions for off, and speaker selection combinations.
All of the switches are mounted to the chassis, which is under the faceplate.
Obviously the faceplate has to be removed. This is major surgery and is not for the faint at heart. I stripped a sx-550 this summer(?), and there is a thread where Rabbi Rich fixed up the power switch on a sx-450. The sx-450,550,650 series are mechanically similar under the skin.
after all the faceplate screws are out, there still are two nuts on the shafts of either some pots or rotary switches that hold the faceplate on.
The switch has to be disassembled, sometimes that can be done in place without desoldering the wafer that is soldered directly to the pc board (PITA).
The problem is that the ac switch section may be ultrasonically welded together. on some they are held together mechanically by the switch hardware.
If you can get to the contacts they are REAL contacts that can be burnished clean of the burned material for more useful service.
