renaissance 80 or kappa 8

I have been looking for a pair of kappa 8's that are close to me for some time now. When they do come up, the price plus shipping puts them out of my budget. There is a pair of renaissance 80 on audiogon for 400 obo. How does the ren. 80 compare to the kappa 8? Is 400 a good deal for the rens?

For my home theater I have kappa 7/s for L&R, kappa 6 for center and rs5 for surrounds. How would the renaissance 80 blend with the kappa 6 for a solid front stage? Any help or info would be appreciated. Brian

The 80s on AG are probably gone, the seller won't answer to emails. They are better suited for jazz and classic, using the same drivers as the top Infinities. I've heard of users blowing the EMIMS or woofers playing loud rock and techno music. The Kappa 8s are more rugged as drivers go.

For "refined listening" in stereo only, the Rens might edge out the 8 Kappas, because of the high-energy EMIMS, but the 8 Kappas will blend more seamlessly with the rest of your system (all Kappa) for surround. You'd be okay with either, but definitely on strong/safe ground with the Kappas. Especially if the Rens are gone already, don't hesitate to get the 8 Kappas.

If it were me, I'd grab the Ren 80s, but only because I missed out on the last pair I found (and kick myself for it), and already have the 8 Kappas. :D
