Renewing the SA-8100 power amp board

Fellow Pioneer enthusiasts,

I'm at the last step in refreshing the components in my SA-8100 amplifier, which is working on the power amplifier board. I'd like to do a complete job, including replacing the output transistors. My question is: what is the best strategy for accessing the bottom of the power amp board? It looks like I can remove the bottom plate holding the protection board to gain access, or alternatively I can unscrew the metal frame holding the power amp pcb from the top of the chassis, to pivot it up, taking the heat sinks with it. (And hopefully not clobbering the temperature compensation diodes..). What experiences have people had working on this board? Does anyone have a recommendation?

Thanks,
Keith

yes leave the originals in - nothing wrong with the o\ps if working, other ones might need replacing

Totally agree, this includes the current driver transistor stages.
Myself, I had no option but replacing, as I bought a defective amp.

Reading back my own comments, as stated indeed the easiest way to get access is removing the protection board to get access.

Putting in the modern transistor replacements can trigger oscillation problems, as I experienced: http://www.gerardslikker.nl/pioneer-sa8100.htm
