repair damage to vintage pioneer amp faceplate?

Does anyone have any ideas for touching up damage to my Pioneer SA-706?

Looks like it's a scuff through the clear coat to the aluminum face plate. Not really any easy fixes for that.

You can try a little non abrasive polish or some sort, but the exposed aluminum will oxidize back to a similar look eventually. You also have to be careful not to rub off any more of the the clear coat or you risk the spot getting a little bigger eventually.

I've had some success with things like "nevr-dull" or aluminum rim polish like Mothers or Meguiers (non abrasive) in minimizing marks similar to that, but they never totally disappear.

I've gone as aggressive as "Autosol", but that's a weapon of last resort for me when talking face plates as it's got an abrasive component to it.

Whatever you try, be sure to stay away from that lettering. It can disappear surprisingly easily sometimes. Especially if it gets hit with the solvent like substances in cleaners/polishes.

!00% agree, there's no real fix for this. Sometimes you just have to appreciate things for what they are, she's still pretty.

Best bet is to leave it as is, convince yourself it's patina, and just enjoy using it, rather than looking at it.

Welcome to AK! An interesting problem that a lot of us share.

I thought in another thread a while back there was someone who sells replacement decals and face plates. If anyone has any info I am interested also.

As mentioned, Mothers Mag wheel polish should remove the oxidation but be careful around the letters/numbers. A dab of clear nail polish over the area should protect the area.
