Repair or Replace

Gentlemen, ladies. I'm trying to decide what to do. I have a vintage 30 year old Mitsubishi DA-F20 that I've had since new that needs some work. It barely brings in any stations anymore. It's connected to an Archer FM radio mounted in my attic. I can have it serviced for about $250 to $300. Not a ton of money. I am not qualified or knowledgeable enough to do this work myself. Cleaning the innards had no effect.

But I'm thinking of a newer modern tuner. Maybe a used MD 101, Parasound T3 or a new Cambridge Audio 600 series. Those will run $300 to $400 or so.

Thoughts?

The DA F20 is tuner of some rep. Since $300 is OK with you. I would say fix her.
 
The DA-F20 has a well deserved rep. Worth repair, alignment and some minor modifications. You would be hard pressed to find a better sounding tuner at twice the prices you are thinking of.
 
Just for yucks, have you tried connecting the antenna to another tuner just to make sure the problem isn't in the antenna or feedline ?

Yeah, hooked it up to a good set of rabbit ears that bring is stations pretty well. It's been on a slow decline for awhile now.

Or considerably more. Many folks think the MD tuners punch well below their weight ($$) class. The key is to insure the work is done by one the 'known good' tuner techs like Punker X, dr*audio, Terry DeWick, (hope I haven't left anyone out) all members here who have the skills and proper test gear to do the work right.
