Replacement Yamaha Woofer help needed

I'm a newbie to this site. I have a Yamaha NS 690II woofer that has finally stopped working and I need to replace it. The problem I've run into is that I can't an original replacement so what I need help with is if anyone knows if there's another Yamaha speaker that I can order online that will fit the cabinet. Are all the Yamaha speakers going to have the same mounting and fit or are all of them going to be different? Anyway, any help anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated. I've had the speakers since 1977 and they really are great speakers. thanks in advance.

Welcome to AK! The woofer will have the model number on the rear. Post that here, it'll help. Some drivers were used in several cabinets, but Yamaha often had unique drivers as well. Mounting method and flange style also changed a bit.

JA 3060 is the magic number. Used pulls come up on ebay and elsewhere. No doubt others will chime in with more info.

You aren't going to find good replacements for those on eBay that easily. They usually get tossed or need refoaming. And to refoam them isn't a big deal, except most times the ones on ebay have magnet shift problems too as I have found out...3 times. Apparently they are as bad as the polks. So now I have a method to fix them. Send me a PM with your number and we'll see if I can fix it for you.

Those are a unique woofer..They have a transparent dustcap .good luck! Maybe someone will part one out on the"bay"?..Someday..Give yamaha a call it wouldn't hurt they still make drivers for 1000's maybe 690"s as well.

The only source I know of is ePrey. Typically sell in the $75--$125/each range. Have seen about 4 or 5 "pulls" for sale in the last year.

I took the speaker to a repair shop in Dallas and the tech told me that it had a magnet shift problem. He said he could possibly fix it but it would take a while for the repair to be completed. I don't really know much about what a magnet shift is but I assume from the tech that it causes the speaker cone to stop vibrating correctly.

What are you waiting for? PM Damage!

Damage who happens to live in Austin can fix your woofers. He also has extra NS-690 woofers. You can bet your bippy that they'll be cheaper than EPrey, plus you'll be working with a member here. Win-win for both of you! :D

In a sudden drop, the glue bond breaks between magnet and frame. "Simple" fix, just get it back in place and epoxy it. But you may have to remove the old bond and clear any bits. The magnet's attraction is strong, so be careful. Keep your experience level in mind if you choose to tackle it or hire it out.

Just to help broaden my search what is the model # on the mid in the 690's. I have been looking for a JA 6060 for my 75T's and cannot find anything.

Geez!

It is a 0701 2.5" dome. I thought the 75t was a 2-way,

I sent Damage a private message from his first post and never heard anything from him. Damage, send me a PM if your original got lost somewhere in the tubes somewhere along the line....
