Hi everyone,
I am considering selling my current integrated amplifier, a Rotel RA-985BX, and upgrading to something that fits my sonic preferences and speakers better. I have narrowed down my choices to two specific models available to me: the Harman Kardon HK 6650R and the Pioneer A-77X.
My current setup and listening habits:
While the Rotel RA-985BX has great speed, the overall sound is a bit too thin in the bass region for my taste. Furthermore, the top end feels a little too sharp and aggressive, which can make long listening sessions tiring, especially with rock and metal masterings.
What I am looking for:
I want an amplifier that will give me a fuller, meatier bass and a smoother, less aggressive high-end. However, I do not want to sacrifice details, dynamics, or stereo separation in the process. I need something that can control those dual 8-inch woofers on the JBLs properly while maintaining a wide and precise soundstage.
Between the Harman Kardon HK 6650R (high-current capability) and the Pioneer A-77X (dual-mono construction), which one would be a better sonic match for my JBL ES90s and my musical taste?
Any experience, advice, or thoughts on the build and sound quality of these two compared to my Rotel would be highly appreciated.
