Replacing tonearm rest assembly Technics SL D500

After doing a fair amount of searching and questioning if a Technics SL B500 tonearm rest assembly will fit on my Technics SL D500,I find that yes it will in fact work as a replacement.I finally found one for sale.Instructions to do this repair seem pretty straight forward,but the fact that I can't secure the tonearm rest that has a broken clip while flipping over my TT to access removing the btm cover poses a question.What is an effective way to go about this task to secure the tonearm during this replacement job.Any other wisdom to facilitate task would be appreciated.

An update on the tonearm rest replacement.I found a SL B500 part that is compatible and it was a simple fix.
