Report Problems with Ads Here!

Former subscriber, have not been on the site much in a few years, was wandering back in due to getting going again on a couple projects. Amazed by the pop up ads. Never used to happen when I was here a lot before. That is a change in user experience. I am on the same browsers and machines, but newer, as before,

To do what the Ad folks want us to do so I won't get scolded:

Ads pop up a bunch. pretty much within the first couple minutes requiring you to visit or close out before continuing. I do that, then it later may happen again. Rinse and repeat.

Machines: various Macs. OS there: generally the latest Tahoe. On this machine the latest Sequoia.

I also use iOS on an iPhone 15 pro max.

I use the Generally using Safari in the past on all machines. Starting to migrate to Ecosia.

While I was doing this, I got this:

(spammy pic removed)

Done. Will await a reply.
Likely be waiting a spell, so far they haven't responded to anything about anything since March. Apparently they will only deal with the site owner now as she has to forward these screenshots to Advally, not that it has helped at all.

Actually, if a place that hosts crowdsourced information is asking for donations (which I am generally happy to give, as well as subscribe generally) and soliciting subscriptions, I think the finances are relevant information.
It's a privately owned website.

But if the place is not being run well
Opinions might vary, but I believe it's being run as well as can be expected with limited resources (i.e., people)

and the attitudes are poor,
I think the attitudes are fine given the amount of issues and the limited time and resources at their disposal.

Yes, I know. You do recognize, however, that the only reason to come here is the information that is shared that comes from a large variety of members, not only those in admin or ownership roles. That is what I mean by crowdsourced. The information and interaction. That takes all of us. And still further to that first point you make, if you are asking for money, that is what I would be interested in and might motivate me more to contribute. A lack of transparency or response, and folks that scold others if they ask questions, or indeed try to report issues in a thread that asks for that, does not.

Second point, perhaps. As said, I have enjoyed this place very much in the past and hope to in the future. I am willing to be open minded and consider things as they develop.

Third point: Glad you have had that experience! Mostly, I have had the same. I do think there are a few folks that want to act as gatekeepers to this hobby or know-it-alls, but I think you find that anywhere. OTOH, folks might get annoyed if folks like me point things out. So again, intending to be on best behavior, and let people be people for the most part, and hope to enjoy being here more again, AND hopeful that I will end up supporting it. Time will tell.

Ads have gotten out of control. Require clicking on them to continue reading.
The old Fender Amp Board became intolerable. I had to get an ad blocker. It was the only way not to go crazy.

I know that a good one can have an annual fee. I use Ghostery, which has an annual donation. It works for all the sites I use. Shareware ones often do not, or are only partially effective.

Weill, I can go ahead and try that. But I agree with the others that it does not really solve the problem with the forum. I will await further response, if any.
I could not navigate any site that has all the pop-ups, redirects, and malicious links. My tolerance is just not up to the task for that. What each site does to limit the problems varies widely and often changes. :(

I got ad blockers a long time ago. When they first became available. To me, the time saved and the lower frustrations were worth it.

But that's just me.

Yes, I will do it and I will try the one that @highvoltage_ suggests as a start as long as it will work with my browser. Nonetheless, it would be nice to see some sort of responsiveness here in this thread, but we’ll let go of any such expectation and just move on.

Yeah. This is out of our hands. It is best to let go of it.

Making a record (the lawyer in me) and letting it go. Have not decided if I will pay to subscribe or donate or not yet. Been working on "letting them" and then considering my own choices (letting me) as things evolve. Plenty enough said for now unless one of the folks that try to make this place run can find a solution.

Well, I can say that I still need an ad blocker, even though I subscribe.

Unfortunately, the Mods prolly have little control over the final nuts-&-bolts decisions. I've been there and done that, and it can be a lousy position to be in. Personally, I've decided to never moderate a site again.

Good luck to all who are involved! :)

Thanks for your service when you did. Tough job and I wish no one here any ill will over any of this.

Let us know how it works out.
Downloaded it and added it to Safari. I have been migrating to Ecosia as my browser (and search engine) of choice, which is a open sourced Chromium based option (as opposed to the specific browser Google Chrome). It has ad and pop up blockers built in you can set to different levels. At the medium setting, It has blocked four trackers and ads so far, and the experience seems better so far. I just turned on enhanced protections so will see if that blocks functionality too much. Meanwhile, seeming to be going just fine.
