I am now getting banner ads between every 4 or 5 threads in a forum. This is pretty shitty. Site is truly becoming garbage. The silence speaks volumes. Thanks again for ruining a great place.

You have posted a total of:
6 times in 2021,
8 times in 2022,
5 times in 2023,
4 times in 2024.
2 yr’s later, 2026 you pop up again, this time to post 8 times in “Report Problems with ad here” thread YET not once did you heed or follow the advice/suggestions in the first post of this thread (see below)

That'd be reasonable to cite if Advally were not AWOL here on AK. But they have not addressed any concerns in this thread since March. They have logged onto AK just once in the last month.
Suggesting members that want to report ad problems include all that information is currently an absolute waste of their time. If Advally showed up and responded again, it would then make sense. For now, it's worse than pointless. All it does is create the appearance of a working process where none exists.
The ads are obnoxious and many are malicious spam with criminal intent. Maybe his snarky comments aren't helpful but I do understand the legitimate frustration behind them.
And the bottom line is Advally could simply post what the deal is, even if that means they post these obnoxious, malicious ads are here to stay, sorry for your luck. The silence on this says a lot.
I suggest you might take the time you took to examine his posting history and look Advally's way instead. That is where the real problem seems to reside.
I understand that the ads are more prevalent for those who are regular members and less for those who are subscribers.
And that everyone may not see what other things are being worked on behind the scenes.
I assure you that the ads are a constant conversation with Advally. But when there are more relevant issues that need to be taken care of to keep the site running, those items are given priority.
I am working with Advally to have them come to read threads like this one. I have sent them many of the screen shots that have been posted in this thread.

i cant subscribe anymore, for a bunch of lame reasons
but some are sounding really ignorant and its none of their business.
this sites finances are none of your biz.
anyone here can add an adblocker to their browser for free'
it;s like 3 or 4 clicks in almost any browser
you cant expect admin to address the hundreds of varatabibilities of thousands of users machines that are all different.
click click click problems solved.
take some responsibility for your machine.
some of you have done nothing but complain. this is a great site and you can fix some inconvineses yourself.
quit relying on others.

FWIW, I only see the upper right hand banner displayed on my Win 11 Pro OS laptop that I use only for internet while I`m on A/K.
I`m not a subscriber.
I don`t need a third party ad blocker for ad free use of the A/K forum.
I use Microslop`s EDGE browser, and apparently maximizing all the by default turned on privacy settings in the Win 11 OS` settings, EDGE browser, + using the EDGE browser "InPrivate" option (which isn`t claimed to be a VPN),and using Spybot`s free anti-beaconing has allowed me to enjoy this forum without any of the advertisements issues some members are complaining about, and has not effected my other internet uses, as well.
Maybe taking control of one`s machine privacy settings might be helpful, as has been for me.
Just a suggestive thought, based on my multi yrs. experience.

I've been seeing these pop up ads for a few months now but just lived with them - until last night when I got a fake McAfee anti-virus ad saying my account was overdue (it wasn't).
I just realized that my Malwarebytes chrome extension didn't have ad blocking turned on for some reason.
Took less than 2 minutes and now I am ad free.
I would suggest others do this as well if it's a problem.

Yes, but easy to get rid of.
That's fair and great for the person who sees this thread and activates an ad blocker. It does nothing for the 100 that don't who get bombarded with ads, many of which are of the phishing variety.
Individual users shouldn't be required to take action to fix a site wide problem that is almost certainly driving the more quiet members and guests to the exits. Friction leads to less usage which long term, is very bad for this forum. Those who don't visit regularly will never subscribe or share potentially valuable insight or develop friendships, etc.

I totally agree with you. That said, I also understand and trust that those who run this site for the benefit of us all are trying their best to do what they can to make it work rather than closing up shop. I personally wouldn’t have the energy to keep this site going.
This is the gospel!
And individuals can't fix this problem anyway, just mask it with ad blockers.

On another note: If I were a sponsor paying for my ad to be seen, but the subscription omits it (as many subscribers report), I would be pissed.
Former subscriber, have not been on the site much in a few years, was wandering back in due to getting going again on a couple projects. Amazed by the pop up ads. Never used to happen when I was here a lot before. That is a change in user experience. I am on the same browsers and machines, but newer, as before,
To do what the Ad folks want us to do so I won't get scolded:
Ads pop up a bunch. pretty much within the first couple minutes requiring you to visit or close out before continuing. I do that, then it later may happen again. Rinse and repeat.
Machines: various Macs. OS there: generally the latest Tahoe. On this machine the latest Sequoia.
I also use iOS on an iPhone 15 pro max.
I use the Generally using Safari in the past on all machines. Starting to migrate to Ecosia.
While I was doing this, I got this:

Actually, if a place that hosts crowdsourced information is asking for donations (which I am generally happy to give, as well as subscribe generally) and soliciting subscriptions, I think the finances are relevant information. Not that I care that much if the ads get fixed or someone shows that they are attending to it somehow. Yeah, I can add an extension ad blocker, but I don't have to do that for other enthusiast sites I subscribe to or even belong to. Just here, apparently.
As I said, I may subscribe anyway, as I miss barter town and some other stuff. But if the place is not being run well and the attitudes are poor, not worth my time and money. I will wait and see and not rush into any judgment. I have enjoyed this place before and hope to again.
