Hello fellow members,
I own a "Monster" SX-1980. My FM tuner is completely useless at the moment. It was functioning perfectly up until a few years ago. Since then I purchased an Onkyo Tuner as a substitute "fix". I'm ready to have the Monster repaired. I live in Central North Carolina (Siler City). Are there any reputable service shops I can go to in Raleigh or Greensboro? Anywhere within say a hundred miles is ok as long as the service is top notch. Please help.
Thank You all in advance.

The biggest issue I see with the SX-1980 tuners is poor connections of the contacts that connect the tuning capacitor shaft to the capacitor frame. It causes allo sorts of strange symptoms from very poor tuning to feedback oscillation that causes the signal level meter to peg, and create strange noises in the audio. This occurs more at the lower end of the tuning dial. If this is the issue you are experiencing, the contacts can be cleaned. I clean the contacts with a no residue contact cleaner and run the tuner from end to end several times. I do the procedure 2 or 3 times, then lubricate the contacts carefully with a hypodermic needle and electronic lube, being careful not to over lubricate and get it on the plates.
