Howdy!
I've got a recently acquired Fisher 500c, and my tech friend who will be restoring it just recommended I go with the Fisher Radio Corp. "Resto-Pak" kit. The problem is that I haven't heard anything good regarding customer service from the "Doc." Has anyone ordered a 500c kit from him? Positive or negative experience? And can anyone tell me if "tubetycoon" is Fisher Radio Corp./The Doc on ebay? If "tubetycoon" is a FRC reseller for the kits I might be less wary about buying one. "The Doc" seems to be well regarded otherwise, but I'm wondering if the quality of parts in the kits and instructions is really superior to the "metalbone" 500c kits which are also for sale on ebay. "Metalbone" also seems to have great customer feedback and quality parts, instructions etc.
Anyone with experience with either of these two vendors (metalbone or tubtycoon) that could be shared would be a great help. And then one other thing to throw into the mix-- Jim McShane seems very well respected here at AK. But after emailing him and getting a parts list, the cost for parts seems significantly higher. Does he include more? Offer superior quality parts, more detailed instructions, or what?
I guess I'm just trying to get the best quality/value I can and avoid customer service nightmares. Any advice is much much appreciated!
