Restoring joel27's 2245

Just wanted to say thanks to Jailtime for posting the pics in this thread. Spent Christmas afternoon recapping the filter caps on my 2245 and used those pics as a guide to make sure I wasn't way off. Suffice it to say both the Marantz and I survived the ordeal for the better. Many thanks!! :thmbsp:

i also do some of my work on my dining room table too.

Good to hear! Just make sure you pay close attention to the polarity of every cap that you replace. And it's not a bad idea to power up with a dim bulb tester when you replace major parts like filters.
 
How many variations of the 2245 are there?

Very curious. I have one with two "megaweight" output transformers which of course causes some board re-orientation. Mine also has the (clear covered) protection relays near the amp stage.
I am going to have some work done (or do it myself if I get brave enough and have time) to the output stage. It has output at the pre amp.
My son had left it unattended for a few minutes at a party he was having a few years back, and apparently the volume got turned up and pushed some speakers beyond their limit plus caused the output to cease and desist.
He was devastated, but did score a 2225 shortly thereafter. The 2245 has been on hold since.
 
Nice work there Kyle. Maybe I should have you recap my 2230 which coincidentally, I bought from Joel. I re-lamped it and I am afraid by listening to it everyday it is going to just croak one day. It's on at least 5 hours a day and sounds great with a pair of recapped Avid 100's. Thanks again Joel!
