Those look great! However, at $339 a pair I would personally look for a less expensive alternative; those cost more than my 690's...

The NS-690's aren't incredibly heavy speakers so the steel stands might be overkill especially at that price. I would think building a pair of SPS-500 clones (basically three square boards bolted together) would be
pretty straightforward, especially if you're dad is a tv repairman and he has a killer set of tools.

Lucky! I did not know one's going have to need to have a workshop before I got into vintage hifi stuff..now workshop is on my must-have list when house shopping..

There is a pair of 690's close to me that I am trying hard not to buy. I'm pushing the wife factor pretty far already. But, still. They need some TLC. Cabinet etc. All drivers are ok except one stuck woofer. Interested to see if you can fix yours.

Hey there, didn't realize you are in ATX. Nice to meet ya virtually!
I have not yet brought them to anyone to fix yet. I plan to take these woofers apart first myself and do some rust treatment before taking them in.

There is a pair for sale in Waco. Seems like they have one stuck woofer. But, something to think about for parts.

Personally I wouldnt drive that far out unless its a pair of ns-1000 but thats just me. I believe someone I knew is also selling a pair here in Houston.

Agreed. I'm jealous of y'all that live in HTX or D/FW with bigger CL markets. I happened to be in D/FW for a trade show and that is where I was able to purchase my NS-1000's and NS-500M's. Was just browsing HTX CL and saw some nice Yamaha gear...

Man, ATX is the music capital (and the capital) of Texas! D/FW do have access to many exciting finds on vintage gear, the same for us in HTX but we have way more eyes on those things.
For example, an estate sale this past Friday in Coldspring (about an hour and half from where I live) had a McIntosh MC 2505, MC 2205, two C32s, a pair of YAMAHA NS-1000, and bunch of other worthy vintage gears in that House. All are sold the very same morning in the first 15 minutes...

This just came to me, typically it'd be easy to fix frozen woofers if the magnet shifted; but from my research I found there are incidents where the inside of the speaker was blown which is not that easy to fix, it'll definitely be a project but if you don't want to do it yourself then I'd actually take out the woofer and look at the back to be certain.

I'd also look at the local Goodwills and estate sales for cheap wooden stools that costs next to nothing...you see Austin, I love wooooooooooooooooddddd! (Goldmember's voice)
