Resurrected PL-516 With Pics

tsd71

RIP Tom Petty
Hello, I picked up a nicotine infested PL-516 at a garage sale a few weeks ago for $10, took it home, pulled it apart, installed all new caps, also new Phono cables, new belt, new Audio Technica cartridge and stylus. Then attempted to clean the nicotine...YUKKK, wouldn't come off with anything. The PL-516 has a sort of formica finish to it, so I sanded the plinth completely, then covered it with walnut vinyl laminate I had left over from a speaker job awhile ago...oops forgot to mention, a new dust cover from Turntable Depot...check out the pics, let me know what you think. It sounds awesome, playing Emerson, Lake, and Palmer, Trilogy right now.

Looks great, I used to have a pioneer turntable very similar to yours, left it in the basement at my Mothers house back in the 80's when cd's became the rage, went to pick it up a few years ago and she threw it in the garbage when she cleaned out the furnace room a year before. I still feel bad when I think about it. Enjoy your table. How does it sound?

Nice work! I done the same thing to my PL-518. Removed ugly gray vinyl lamination and used reel wood veneer. Mine has a very very tiny speed drift, but it's ok ;)

NICE!!!
I really like this era of Pioneer TTs, and recently revived a PL-550, but went piano black to match the new pile of blackstuff.
