This doesn’t happen very often but I had to return something that didn’t work to Amazon. If Amazon delivered it you have the choice of UPS, or FedEx to return it. I picked FedEx. I am going to do it like this from now on. With UPS you box it back up print the return label and drop it off. With FedEx you get a QR code in your email for backup. But the RA QR code is posted with the order on the Amazon App. All you have to do is put the return back in its retail box and take it to a FedEx store they scan the QR code on you smartphone and that’s it they take it from there. One thing I noticed is Amazon credited the return and the refund posted with in hours. Before I got the Brother printer it was a hassle printing return UPS labels because the crappy HP printer never worked. FedEx bypassed the whole printer thing.

They do give you a choice of where you want to drop it, and in most cases you don't even need to repack it, at least at the UPS store. But I noticed recently that if you pick UPS they charge you a dollar, so you have to determine if UPS is the best way?
I just dropped something at Staples, no box or envelope, had the QR code, and was out of there in 2 minutes. AND they do it differently than UPS, and probably FedEx. Once they code it and sticker it, the put multiple returns in a larger box so the whole box of things is sent without individual packing up. What a great way to send as many things as they can fit in one box thus saving a lot of repackaging.

i couldn't remember all the options around here so i just took a random product and checked

rent a center is the only option for this product in this area.

Our return drop off place is Whole Foods about 8 miles from the house. Just take it in with the provided QR and off it goes.
 
i checked another item and staples drop off is free, rent a center drop off is free. fedex drop off is $1

i checked another item and the options are ups store-free. ups drop off-free. ups pickup $7.99

there is no set in stone return locations around here.
 
Staples takes returns no box needed unless instructed to by Amazon to repack. Usually states something to the effect of return all paperwork and original box and packing IIRC.
Just show QR code on your phone. Staples puts a label on it when they check it in.

There are a few options offered to select from, I search down for what works for me. Yes they offer UPS Khol's Trader's Joe's to name a few. USPS even maybe...

I try Staples then UPS just because they are so easy for me.
 
The majority of my Amazon returns go to Kohl's. All I need is the QR code (provided by Amazon), and I don't even have to repack the item.
Most low priced items from Amazon are considered giveaways, I get to keep those and I still receive a refund.

All the comments posted here are accurate, when you buy from Amazon. When you buy from a 3P seller it reverts back to the olden USPS return days.
 
I use Kohls. Hassle free. No box needed, the shove it a bag and label it. And, they give you a $5 or 15% discount coupon you can use right now. As a previous poster suggested, many small items they tell you to keep, and the give the refund.
 
I can either put mine in a Winn Dixie Dropbox or take it to cvs, both just a few miles from home. Amazon has never told me to just keep something no matter how small and I/we buy a lot from them. The Winn Dixie usually gives us a coupon to use immediately for shopping but I don’t remember at the moment how much.

It has happened several times to me, and there's an Amazon warehouse about 10 minutes away! I'm an Amazon Prime member, not sure if that has anything to do with it.
The items I have attempted to return were all inexpensive Next or Same Day delivery. I think those items I purchased were overstocked and Amazon didn't want them returned to take up needed shelf space and/or spend on man-hours to restock.

not long ago, i bought a bottle of dove soap from amazon. it leaked inside the package so i chatted with, they told me to dispose of it and gave me a refund. (i ordered another)

a few weeks later i get an email saying to return the soap or i am getting charged. so i chat with them again and since the chats are saved, the reps words were right there saying "dispose of it" so it was squashed. i was told not to worry.

a few weeks later i get an email saying that i was charged for the soap since i didn't return it and they even charged a credit card that was not used for the purchase. so i chat again. and am told not to worry.

so they finally refund my money on the correct credit card but they did not refund the $1.50 promotional shipping.

they did me a $15 amazon gift card.

you gotta watch them. they will screw you if given the chance.

That's exactly why Kohl's wants your return, so you might buy something from them with your return coupon. Clever plan, guess it works.

When I used to use Whole Foods (owned by Amazon) I would NEVER buy didly on my way to the back of the store to drop off a return. Now my nearest UPS store location is really close so I don't have to drive to Whole Foods anymore. So sad.
