Revisiting an Old Friend. Live Albums Rock!

While I knew a few of the Kansas songs from the radio, I bought my first album from them when I was fourteen or so. My first record was Two For The Show, a double live album. Have not listened to it in many years, and bought a used copy to have it about three years ago.

Took it out tonight, just wanted to hear it. Love the energy the live version brings! These songs sound so urgent and vital when compared to the studio work. I consistently find that I like live versions better than the studio work. For instance, my first Aerosmith album was Live Bootleg, and that still has my favorite versions of their songs.

On this Kansas album I love songs like Borne on Wings of Steel, Portrait, The Wall, Song For America....hell all of them really. Sometimes revisiting old friends like this makes for an enjoyable evening.

Yes indeed. Some bands bring it live, but on the other hand, some bands don't. Always nice to revisit songs and artists from long ago. Sometimes I discover the reason some of those tired old songs were so popular, they sound fantastic on a good system, not like the transistor or clock radio I was used to hearing them on.

I got into live music after exhausting the catalogs of my favorite artists but wanting to hear more. Went through a heavy live bootleg phase. Anything to hear something I hadn't heard before from a particular band.

Good live recordings are great when you've heard your favorite band's songs a million times, tiring of it. You get to hear a new spontaneous version of the songs.

And of course with a good recording and decent stereo, you can almost imagine being at the show!

Went through a heavy live bootleg phase.

I've been going through it most of my life.

I own a couple of thousand live concerts.Audio and video.

I sold most of my bootleg vinyl...which I kinda regret now

Live music is where it's at.

I love a good studio recording,but, nothing gets me going like a live album.

I picked up "The Live Adventures of Mike Bloomfield and Al Kooper" over the weekend and finally got to listen to it last night. Flat out fantastic stuff, along with the live Jimmy Smith Trio album I got. I have a live Focus album that does a much more rocking version of Hocus Pocus than the studio album does as well.

On the other hand I've heard a few live albums that were just crap, either because of the performance or the recording. I don't neccesarily expect perfection in a live recording, but it needs to at least sound like the music its supposed to be.

The remastered CD has a second disc of live material . Quite excellant .

Mr. Pig---I, too, love that Kansas album, although I came to it much later. I picked it up in the past year or so, after having owned a couple studio LPs for, well, ages. Great rendition of most of their tunes, I agree!!
