So I snagged a revox a77 and a box of reels for about 100 bucks. There are 6 reels that are metal and another 5 or so by scotch that are also metal. The a77 came with its cover, the manual and is from germany. It has the multiple voltage selection, and is really clean. However I'm very new to r2r so I have not a clue to set it up and play it. So any insight would help! Pics to come!!!

You’ll probably get a better response over in the Tape area. There are a lot of A77 owners (myself included) who post there.

What do you need to know? The owner’s and service manuals are available at hifiengine.com.

First guess, Read the Manual!!

Now if it is a service manual and not the owner's manual, hunt down the OM and read that.

Or just thread up a reel, hit play and listen (you do have the unit hooked up to a tape monitor loop, right?). If there is nothing on the tape, rewind it and drop the needle on a nice album and hit record. Use proper recording levels (peak at the spot on the meter that looks like the peak signal point not the full swing of the meter.)

There is some stuff on the web about how to use a RTR.

Thanks guys, I was just curious if it was a decent deal for a 100 bucks. The manual is actually a lineup of that years additional models lol.

if it's in decent condition the deal is MORE then decent. If the box of tapes are decent stuff, those alone could still be a good deal.

hint: if you fast transport, don't switch to play before the tape stopped...

Well if you had alluded to that in your post we would have said you stole that unit (even if it needs a little work) because Revox parts are available and it is a nice unit.
