Revox head interchangeability?

Hey guys,

I periodically see Revox heads for the B77 come up on ebay at what appear to be fair prices. The heads in my A77 mkII are fine now, but I know they do have a bit of wear and will eventually (in a couple years) need replacement. Are the heads from the B77 compatible with the A77? Are the heads the same from the MkI-MkIV in the A77 line?

I am not certain but think they are the same. I will check the SM for part numbers

Yes, only the erase head is different between the A77 and B77.

Just make sure you get the right track format.

Are these heads also interchangeable with Revox g36/f36 ? I think the swap from original heads would improve the high freq extension on these machines.

As far as I know the record and play heads are interchangable between the A77 & B77. Although I believe the the MkIII and beyond A77 heads may have have used a somewhat superior alloy the older heads. The erase heads are totally different though and are not interchangable.

The A77/B77 heads are not interchangable with the G36 heads even though the later G36 heads do look very similar. The G36 heads are much higher impedance than are the A77/B77 heads, and the tube circuitry isn't designed to use the newer low-impedance heads.
