Revox NAB adapters

Hey guys,

Anyone know of a domestic source for Revox NAB hubs? There is a guy in Turkey that sells on that auction site and although his pics look good, his price is right (if they are indeed NOS), and his feedback good, I am always leery of overseas purchases.

I don't know and I certainly don't want to give anyone a bad reputation but I've seen his listings before and he's been selling those for a long time. How many NOS pieces could he have? Also he seems to have them in all sorts of weird and wonderful colours -- did Revox make them like that? Thirdly, any auctions I've seen for Revox NAB adapters, where the listing states "original" or similar, normally goes quite a bit higher than his Buy It Now prices. You should mail him through the auction site and ask. If he says "no", it's the truth. If he says "yes", you're still wondering. Of course, just because they might not be original doesn't mean they are cheap (although admittedly you wouldn't know until you tried them on the deck).

I bought some from a seller from turkey and if it's the same guy, they are not NOS. They are copies, but they seem reasonable in quality and are 1/3rd the price of genuine ones. I've had the genuine ones and they are different. Here are the copies on my Tascam.

Does he claim they are NOS parts? I might have missed it.

Anyway. The metal part is just screwed onto the NAB hub that you can probably find on the bay sooner or later more local and then just buy the aluminum handles from Turkey if that makes you feel better.

If they are reproductions and vincei is happy with his, this might be the best way to go.

I think it's the same guy.

They look nice on the Tascam and I wouldn't be able to tell at a distance. He doesn't claim NOS, but they do have little the "Revox" printed on the inner cover...but that may be just the demo for pics. Anyway, do the ones you have seem robustly constructed and hub-centric? I have heard that some cheaper hubs can be slightly out of alignment which may not seem to bad when playing, but when you get a loaded 10.5 reel on there going at full speed in reverse, it can almost vibrate the machine right off the table!

Mine also have "Revox" printed in the center. The quality is OK, but if you plan to use them heavily, I would be hesitant. The hubs do seem a little less robust compared to the original Revox I had, for heavy use, you may be better off getting original hubs and then get the copy flanges. That said, I've had them a few months now and they are fine. As far as the alignment, they seem fine too. You can see them in action here:

There's another seller who states up front that his are replicas but goes on to say that they are more robust than the originals which he reckons weren't up to heavy use. Can't find him right now.

Those look pretty hub-centric to me!! Even at full speed, there didn't seem the slightlest hint of wobble....they looked like they weren't moving.....which is I guess what they should look like.

I don't plan to use them heavily (only for fun, not for studio use), so these may be a good way to go, and if the originals ever do pop up, I can get them and just swap the flanges.

You should still be able to source new ReVox NAB hubs from Jack Clark at J-M Technical Arts in Nashville. Mr. Clark was the former director of the service department at Studer-ReVox America in Nashville. He has parts for ReVoxes from the G-36 forward and many Studer parts. A nice tip to reduce service/repair cost is to have a parts machine close by or two.

I bought a set from one of the sellers in Turkey..there are at least 3 on EBay I have seen..the center piece I have says Revox and then the Metal Flanges you have to screw on. Mine looked fine and work well. I have them on a Pioneer RT 909.

I've bought 5 or 6 sets from the guy from Turkey. Different colors to match the different colored reels. Mine say ReVox in the center of the hub. They work fine for me.

Here's a pic of the blue ones. Blue on the outside and plain aluminum inside.

I have to say that I too bought a set from "the guy in Turkey" and got a lemon. One of the hubs' screw set doesn't work so I am left with a nice Revox plastic hub but no reliable means of attaching the expensive aluminium bit to the plastic part. In fairness though, the other one works fine. It wasn't worth the hassle of trying to return the defective one, given the cost of postage etc.

Paolo,

I would think that using just two of the set screws would be more than adequate to secure the flange to the hub.

And if you want all three set screws in place. You could put the flange on the hub and drill a small hole through the hub where the set screw hole lines up and used a very small sheet metal screw to secure.

I e-mailed Jack Clark, and he said that NOS hubs were "very expensive" and recommended that I check ebay.....so I gave my money to the guy in Turkey. I'll report on how they are once I get them. As I don't have a frame of reference, I can't compare them against genuine Revox hubs, but build quality and fit and finish is apparent to even a novice so we shall see.

I also asked him about the gerbil chomping on plastic when the counter is running and he simply said that the counter needs "replacement/repair".

I looked in the service manual (my buddy had an original) and access to the counter seems pretty simple (remove front cover and there it is). I assume that if I remove the cover plate and run the reels, I should see where the counter is having the problem. There is a guy in Germany that is selling NOS counter assemblies with both belts for about $65 shipped, so if this one is shot (I'll tinker with it), I can just disconnect it and run the machine without it until the new one arrives....or am I over simplifying the replacement of the counter.......:scratch2:

If we are all refering to the same ebay seller from Turkey, I can comment that I've had very good experience with him. I have bought several B77 parts from him. The items were always in top shape (or as described) and packaging was beyond criticism.

Hi John

Yes, that idea has occurred to me and I will get round to it one day. Its not really a huge deal. The flanges were more for bling factor than practical application. As I said, one was fine, the other not great on quality control. However, as SaSi says, I can't fault the service or the packaging. If I was closer to Europe, I'd have contacted him and worked out an exchange. However, factoring postage costs etc, its cheaper to just buy a small drill bit :D

Just thought I'd update. Thanks to this thread, I finally got around to fixing my bad NAB hub. A bit of work with the drill and all is well  My Revox has never looked so good. Amazing what a bit of bling will do :D
