Rewire and repair of mackat's Black Widow

Well, it's not in the car, maybe it got into a box I put in the garage. I bet that's it, I put it into the wrong box!!!

It is really amazing how Paul ( Deli ) handles all sorts of arms.

Paul, I´ll PM you soon regarding my SME 3009 II. I know we are Oceans apart, but still....:scratch2:
 
You guys are all too kind.

I was concerned Mackat's Infinity would languish in indignity unless looked at. I couldn't really duplicate his claimed troubles and issues, but polishing the knife edge bearings surely did not hurt- they should actually be better than factory.

The wiring needed to be re-done, however. Those bare areas would have only caused some severe issues in a matter of (short) time. The wiring is trouble-free now.

And overall, the arm is in very, very good shape. It's very clean, and a really nice example of the Infinity Black Widow.

I don't think he should sell it. It's a very nice, clean example. One of the nicer I've had my filthy mitts on.

What are the issues, Jorge? Another arm I really enjoy working on:yes:. Just rewired one and have another in the cue.
 
You're correct, Deli, I think it would have languished in indignity..... But seriously, thanks a lot! Nope, definitely not selling it now. It was either sell it, or let Paul fix it. I chose option two, the obviously better option :)

I was concerned at first there may have been something wrong with the arm- and it seemed you lost your love for it. Nothing blatant stood out, and I polished up the knife edge nicer than factory, so if there was a lingering issue, it had to have been minor, and now I feel is non-existent. :yes:

I'd have hated the arm to be sitting, unused and with issues.

I knew it could be sorted and was glad to help you out. You had me worried with some of your words and descriptions but your soldering work was not as bad as you made it out to be- you're better than you think.

You are still welcome to sell the arm- it is yours, after all. I just don't think you'll find too many of these that are in the nice condition yours is.

Well, Paul, I got it with a Lenco TT some years ago. A few parts were missing, I got some from ebay, then pulled the whole shabang apart. It has been laying around disassembled for over two years now, and I don´t feel I´m up to the task of rewiring it and getting it all back together, so you came to mind.

As I said I will PM you with more details to see if we can work out some deal.

Paul, can you post pics of the trough and paddle assembly? I was wondering if I could build a set for my arm if it doesn't look too complicated.

How much does this help an arm and what does it do exactly? It must be fairly rare on the Black Widow. I don't think I have ever seen one with it.

Gears are turning. Maybe very dangerous in my case.
 
My BW Graphite came with the damping kit, I never used it. I don't think my original 2-piece BW had it, may have been a later order-only add-on for them.

More than glad to post a pic when I get it. Ben didn't send it along so it'll arrive later on.

My thought is it helps control a less than ideal cartridge/arm pairing.

No, I'm definitely keeping it now. I think I'll like it much better :yes: Thanks for the compliment. I was taught by someone quite good at soldering himself!

Joe Grado had some input on the BW when his Siggie line was high compliance as was the mid-to-late 1970s trend, the damper no doubt helped tame the notorious Grado woggle.
