Right side of Luxman L-100U dead.

Hey everyone,

I'm currently running a Technics SL1300 into a Luxman L-100U. The other day, I was having some trouble with the RCA interconnect cables - I stupidly removed the cables from the phono-1 input, and put them back in. Immediately, I heard a loud pop in the speakers, saw a spark near the input board, and the power light started flickering.

Now, the right channel on any of the inputs does not work. Left channel on all the inputs works fine. I ended up having to switch out my RCA interconnects on the turntable (the previous owner did a real **** job of soldering the connections), and it works fine with another receiver.

Any idea where to start with troubleshooting this? I don't see anything visibly burnt, and must say this is one of the more complicated amplifiers I have seen.

Get the manual from one of the on line sources. Horrible manuals but those that know how can use them.

Condolences. That L100 is worth saving of course. Keep us posted on your progress. There is a Luxman yahoo group that may be helpful at some point too.

Small consolation I’m sure but it is fortunate that there’s a service manual for the L100. I’ve got a couple of pieces of Luxman gear and neither has a reliable service manual (one largely illegible, the other nonexistent).

Run the amp as a seperate, connect an ipod/phone/... to the MAIN-IN RCA's at low volume.
R-channel present? You could try running from the PRE-OUT RCA's to another amp.

Spark is a bad sign, I'd try and work out what happened there after the PRE-OUT.MAIN-IN tests
confirm a pre-amp issue.
