Right speaker channel, only tweeter working? Help!

Hi all,

This is my first post on the forum as I've recently got into vinyl after my other hand and I acquired a HiFi system from her late grandma.

We're having an issue where only the tweeter is working on the right hand speaker when it's on turntable input. I've swapped the speakers over and put the left speaker into the right speaker output and the same issue was presented.

Both speakers work fine on the CD and tuner modes. Must be an issue with the right hand channel from the turntable but I don't really know where to start?

Apologies if I've not made much sense, I'm still very new to all of this as you can imagine! Haha.

Just some other general info: tried new speakers and the same issue is there. The make and model of our system is Aiwa AC-M55 (very 90s).

Any help much appreciated. I think I'm going to have to take the back off it and fix something, I just don't know what.

Welcome to AK. What you mentioned does not make any sense. It sounds like you are not getting any bass out of the one channel. You swapped speakers so the woofer is ok. What cartridge is on the turntable?

When you say cartridge, what do you mean?

edit: I’ve just googled it haha. The cartridge (also known as the needle?) seems to be the original Aiwa one.

I will recommend:

• Put the TT in aux input and try.
• Brush the stylus gentle with little volume in your system.

the estrange thing here is the twiter receive a signal means there is output from your system.

Possibly not a problem with the Record Player at all, but with the Phono Stage within the Reciever you are using. Another receiver, or Player would need to be used to test that theory before tearing anything apart.
